Arrogant Architects Receives Award at ArXellence 03 competitioin in Athens for “Waves of Renewal”

29th of April, ATHENS, GREECEArrogant Architects, has been honoured with an Honorable Mention at the prestigious ArXellence 03 international architecture competition. The award, presented in Athens, recognises the studio’s visionary project, “Waves of Renewal,” a transformative blueprint for coastal regeneration.

The accolade was formally received in the Greek capital by Arch. Jacquelline Dimitrova and Arch. Petko Bulkin, representing the multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Arch. Bozhidar Hinkov, accompanied by Diana Kirilova part of the Alumil team – organisers of the ArXellence 03 competition that challenged global firms to reimagine the future of the historic island of Gyaros.

The Project: Architecture as a Healing Force

“Waves of Renewal” is not merely a design for a single location; it is a universally applicable methodology designed to address the environmental and historical burdens of coastal zones worldwide. The project moves beyond traditional boundaries by proposing a system where the sea is empowered to heal the land through targeted, technologically advanced interventions.

The masterplan is built upon three strategic pillars:

  • SEA CYCLE: A modular, floating marine research institute designed for rapid deployment and minimal environmental footprint.
  • LAND RE-CYCLE: The strategic repurposing of existing land-based structures—such as former prisons—into engines for renewable energy, green hydrogen production, and sustainable water management.
  • Healing Landscapes: A bio-reclamation process that transforms degraded sites into “healing gardens” using native flora and innovative pumped hydro storage.

This international recognition underscores the operational reality of Arrogant Architects. While rooted in the domestic architectural landscape of Bulgaria, the studio has successfully exported its “Strategic Humanism” to high-stakes global decision rooms.

“We are not merely proposing a development; we are offering a replicable blueprint for transforming environmentally stressed coastal locations into beacons of innovation,” says Prof. Arch. Bozhidar Hinkov.

The project is a developement of the approach that has already achieved significant international acclaim, having previously won the Public’s Coup de Coeur – Architecture Award in Monaco. By winning in Athens, Arrogant Architects reinforces its position as a leader in Agenda-Proof Landmarks—architecture designed to remain relevant across generations and resilient to shifting political and economic climates.
