The new Bar-less Prison with Training Center for Prison Officers in Samoranovo was unveiled to the public
The new complex in Samoranovo village, featuring a bar-less prison based on the Norwegian model, transitional wards, and a training center for prison officers, was unveiled to the public today after 16 months of construction. The team of Arrogant Architects was honoured to participate at the conference and the public unveiling at Samoranovo shortly after.
"I am proud that we can showcase the tangible outcomes of our collaboration with the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (NFM). As both a minister and a responsible deputy minister, I have been actively involved in this project, making it a personal mission," stated Minister of Justice Maria Pavlova during her opening remarks at the final conference held in Sofia earlier today.
"It's a tremendous achievement," said Kim Eckhaugen, director of the International Directorate at the Norwegian Correctional Service. Despite facing challenging deadlines and tough negotiations, our Bulgarian friends remained committed to implementing their Plan A with creative problem-solving skills, ensuring success in the end."
Minister Maria Pavlova expressed her gratitude to the skeptics who challenged the project team, motivating them to give their best. The director general of the GDIN, Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Yordanov, said that this is “a dream come true” for every head of prison administration and the GDIN in general. He emphasized the main role of the work with incarcerated individuals and preparing them for life after imprisonment.
The complex is set to be operational in September, following specialised employees training for the staff."
