Bononia Estate Spa
Bononia Estate enlisted our services for the design and execution of a spa center in their hotel located in the village of Koshava.
Upon receiving the initial design for this area, we identified certain shortcomings and successfully addressed them, as illustrated in the two contrasting plans:
Problems:
The focal point of the composition was a set of three open showers, resulting in water splashing and the floor staying consistently wet. A "relaxation" room with two couches was initially planned, but finding complete relaxation in a confined space with a stranger is challenging. To access the massage room, one had to go through the entire spa area, which seemed unnecessary and inappropriate.
Solutions:
We eliminated the changing rooms entirely, as the investor sought exclusivity for their clients, precluding outside visitors. Lockers were introduced at the entrance of the relaxation area for clients to store small personal belongings and pick up clean towels. In our effort to create something visually appealing, we incorporated a large aquarium as the central feature, symbolizing the nearby Danube River. This aquarium, visible from all angles, served as a constant reminder of our location below the river level. Typically found in larger spa centers, a room for deep relaxation after treatments was considered unnecessary. Instead, we envisioned this space encouraging visitors to enjoy informal interactions and contemplate the fish from a long relaxation bench. We introduced independent access to the massage room, allowing for separate use and the possibility of accommodating two people if needed. A vestibule was designed to separate the toilets from the spa area.

After refining the functional layout, we focused on interior solutions to support our goals:
- Dimmable discreet lighting was strategically placed to highlight the central element - the aquarium with the fish. - Maximum glazing of the facilities into the common space was incorporated to create a more spacious feel. - The choice of tiles, with a sand bottom and seaweed design, and the incorporation of wave shapes emphasized the connection with the Danube River.
The end result is a clean and serene design with carefully measured elements that contribute to a sense of coziness.
