“Simeon Radev” Preliminary School Extension
New beginnings for the school campus
The new spaces, for the elementary school for the little ones, are located in the quiet eastern part of the plot, an area that is maximally "sheltered" and peaceful. In the immediate vicinity, there is also an area for playing and relaxing outdoors.

"The little ones" and their space
This project envisions the construction of a modern learning environment for the youngest students, located in a new building within the existing campus of 145th Simeon Radev Elementary School in Sofia.
Five new classrooms, a new study room, and adjacent outdoor spaces are located in the eastern part of the plot, creating a universally accessible environment that connects all spaces through an internal atrium with natural light and ventilation.
Modern and fast construction, combined with modular furnishing of the learning spaces, a warm connection to the existing building, and maximum connection with the surrounding green spaces of the campus, create a healthy learning environment for the "little ones".

Five new classrooms, a study room, and adjacent outdoor learning spaces with high-standard equipment are located on a single level with a shared forum space. The forum space is designed as a recreation and event area for children to share stories and gather in various free formats. The "warm" connection directly integrates into the forum space, which in turn connects to the outdoor space in front of the building through an amphitheater. Each classroom extends into an outdoor learning space with specially designed furniture.
Direct visual connection of all classrooms to the heart of the space - a covered central forum - a place for meetings and games, flowing into an accessible amphitheater space for various events. The boundary between the two - the forum and the amphitheater - is an accordion-type showcase, which allows for the full opening of the interior to the outdoor spaces during the warm months.
Open to the common space
The end of the era of isolation, dark corridors, and education behind closed doors. The new classrooms are universally accessible and visible from the common forum space, without solid partitions. Guaranteed opportunity for students to show interest in what is happening in these spaces. Everyone is welcome to enter the class!

Universally Accessible Environment
All entrances and spaces in the building are universally accessible, including for people with specific requirements. There is no segregation or special aids to overcome various obstacles, which are the real "barrier" to restoring normalcy in the education system. All outdoor learning spaces are at ground level, again without unnecessary obstacles. The vertical layout allows access to the yard from every room and study room.

Natural Ventilation
The "open plan" and optimized prefabricated construction solution enable the design and implementation of a forum space connected to all areas of the building, providing natural ventilation through integrated air vents in the facade elements and roof windows.
Natural Lighting
The translucent glass block and glass facades, combined with the roof windows, allow for uniform natural light to penetrate deep into the spaces, eliminating the need for artificial lighting for most of the day. The achieved lighting comfort is unmatched.
Healthy Environment
The combined effect of penetrating natural light and natural ventilation leads to scientifically proven purification of the environment for the little ones from mold and other pathogens and turns the illuminated interior forum space from a desirable into a mandatory element of a healthy interior.
Modern and Fast Construction
The designed modular metal structure and dry construction and installation works significantly reduce the time for construction of the new building and allow for maximum limitation of interference in the learning environment of the school campus. The proposed building system meets fire safety requirements.

Outdoor Learning
All new classrooms have their own extension directly outside, through glazed showcases, into spaces for outdoor learning activities, with furniture provided for this purpose. This makes it possible to increase the time spent "outside" and improve the quality of children's experience in school, at this very important early age.
Modular Furnished Classrooms
The designed classrooms are multifunctional, with furniture and equipment allowing numerous ways of use, spatial organization, and adaptation over time. The open plan solution allows for rearranging, merging, and updating the learning environment, according to the current needs and programs of the school.
