Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Nautical Base
Sea Garden - assembeled on site
After demolition of the existing structures on site a thorough separation of the structural materials should be performed - for future use in the construction process. All materials should be preferably stored in the near vicinity in an attempt to curb transport emissions.
Secondly - a basin walls made of prefab sustainable concrete panels will form the borders of the sea bed to be. Following this step the existing soil and sand should be removed to open the way for the water to “reclaim” its new frontier. The prefab slab and columns for the functional elements on the Ground level are then added. Ontop of them the prefab terrain model is assembled, forming the new landscape of the site. Moss and other epiphytic plants, corals and algea are layered forming the biosphere of the New Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Nautical Base. And finally - the canopy - suported by Cross Laminated Timber V-shaped columns is assembled. It will shade the biosphere, while the photovoltaic louvres collect energy from the Sun for everyday use in the complex.
In our design concept we have divided the site in two halves, connected by the nature-like submerged habitat. The first floor accommodates all the functional elements part of the competition program, while the second creates a new public space - a biospheric agora. In the northwestern part of the site are located all nautical and diving amenities: storage, workshop, changing and meeting rooms, with direct access from the existing parking lot and the beach. The southeastern part of the site is dedicated to the local community and visitors with restaurant for seventy people on the first floor and a roof terrace on the second, both with spectacular view towards the gulf and the marina. This part of the project site is accessible from the pedestrian bridge connecting the other part of the building and also directly from the existing pier.
